Art Room with Helen Kennedy

Introduction to Cyanotype Workshop by Helen Kennedy
The Cyanotype process is a historical photographic process that produces a deep blue /cyan print.
Learn the Cyanotype printing process with Helen Kennedy using the flora of Flinders as your inspiration.
Helen will show you how to make images using found objects such as leaves, fabric, feathers, mesh and many more.
You are welcome to collect and bring your own objects to expose. There will however be a collection of objects provided for your use. All chemicals, paper, contact frames, brushes, and paints will be provided. This workshop is an engaging hands-on experience where you will learn the process of cyanotype, experiment with “wet” cyanotype, hand colouring and various other
experimental techniques. We will also discuss toning and staining cyanotypes, and how the process can be applied to other surfaces. We will be working with the sun as our UV light source, so the sun and weather at the time will determine the intensity, exposure time and the sort of cyanotype prints which we produce. In the case of severe weather, you will be contacted, and an alternative workshop will be provided.
Helen Kennedy is a practicing artist and educator based in Melbourne. She primarily works in printmaking, painting, photography and cyanotype. Helen’s work has been inspired by the light, sea and landscape of the Mornington Peninsula, having spent many years growing up in Flinders, sailing Western Port and foraging on Flinders’ ocean beach. In her current work, Helen explores the relationship between light, colour and nature. Her work is represented in national and regional galleries across Australia and in public and private collections overseas.
